Adopt at snake from The Animal Club

Posted on: 23/10/2025

The Animal Club, based in B1.0.1, meets every Friday at lunchtime and gives students the chance to learn about and handle reptiles. Over time, we’ve welcomed six corn snakes — each with their own colours and personalities — all successfully cared for by our students.

The club continues to be really popular, with more than 30 students joining each week. It’s been especially valued by SEND, EAL, and vulnerable students, some of whom say that coming to see the snakes helps motivate them to attend school.

Over the summer, two students took snakes home to care for them, gaining a unique experience for themselves and their families. One student even used reptile care as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award!

Excitingly, two pairs of snakes have laid eggs that have since hatched — and we hope some students (with parental consent!) will be able to adopt them soon. More details coming tomorrow!

We’ve also recently added a crested gecko to the club, who’ll be joining us after half term.

A huge thank-you to the PTA for funding the Animal Club and helping make these experiences possible.
