Introduction to the Learning Resource Centre
Kenilworth School is fortunate to have a Learning Resource Centre (Library) at each site. The LRC provides students with a range of fantastic resources to support their studies and encourage reading for pleasure. As well as books the LRC also has a selection of academic and popular magazines. All students also have access to eBooks.
There are computers within the LRC for use by students for homework and research. The LRC team consists of three members of staff who are passionate about books and learning. They are available every day to assist students looking for reading books or help with finding information.
Students at Leyes Lane can use the LRC before school from 8am plus break and lunchtime. From 8am until tutor time we have Smart Start, a designated quiet time to start the day the right way. Students may also have lessons in the LRC. The LRC at 6th form is open for private study throughout the school day. Staff are on hand to provide students with any help or assistance they require. All students have a short induction to explain what the LRC team can do to help them.
There are a number of activities organised by the LRC staff. Students at Leyes Lane can take part in the Warwickshire Secondary Book Award, the Year 9 Book Award plus the Carnegie Book Award. Teams also enter the National Reading Champions Quiz. At 6th form students can take part in Book group to read and discuss recent titles.

Some of the authors may be familiar, others will be new to you, all will take you away to a different time or place. You may find some of these books in the public library. All will be available to you when you join Kenilworth School.

Recommended reads before you leave school
This is Kenilworth’s list of 100 Books to read before you leave school. For ease of use the list has been split in two, one list for Key stage 3 (years 7-9) and one for Key stage 4 (years 10-11). The list is a mixture of classic and contemporary literature. The list is by no means exhaustive, and you may feel something is missing, but it will provide you with ideas from a wide range of genres and styles. The books are on this list because they are classics that have stood the test of time, they have won either national or local book awards or they are considered to be classics of the future. Hopefully you will find something that appeals to you.KS3 recommended readsKS4 recommended reads

Recommended Reads for 6th Form
Recommended Reads for 6th Form
Recommending a list of books for an audience as diverse as the 6th form is not an easy task. The books on this list are taken from the BBC’s 100 Novels that shaped our world. As you will see this is not a list of 100 titles but rather the list of those suitable for older teenagers and those available in the LRC at 6th Form. If you would like to know more about the original list and how the panel made their choices please follow this link.
Subject Specific Recommended Reads
Recommended reading lists to accompany most A –level subjects can be found in the my lists section of Infiniti under the tab lists shared with me. For more personalised recommendations please speak to LRC staff.
Recommended reads for EAL
This list of books is for those students who struggle with English either because English is not a first language or because of dyslexia or similar condition. All the books on the list are quite short but will still be gripping stories. This is a very small selection of the books available in the LRC, if you require more personalised recommendations please contact the LRC. lrc@ksn.org.uk
