RSE Consultation 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our commitment to supporting the wellbeing, safety and personal development of all students, we are currently reviewing our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum and policy in line with the updated statutory guidance from the Department for Education. This is taught within our PSHE (Personal, Social and Health education) lessons at Kenilworth School.
PSHE plays an important role in helping young people to build healthy and respectful relationships; to stay safe online and offline; to understand physical and emotional wellbeing as well as helping them to develop knowledge appropriate to their age and stage of development.
At Kenilworth School and Sixth Form, we value the role of parents and carers as children’s first educators and believe it is important that families are informed and involved in the development of our curriculum.
What is changing?
The updated guidance places a greater emphasis on:
- age-appropriate teaching
- safeguarding and online safety
- respectful relationships and consent
- mental wellbeing as part of health education
As a result, we are reviewing our PSHE and RSE policies; looking at our curriculum content and sequencing to ensure it is rigorous in meeting the needs of our students as well as complying with government guidance and therefore we will be updating our teaching resources and external providers to ensure our curriculum is fit for purpose.
How can parents and carers contribute?
We would like to invite you to take part in our consultation process by participating in the following:
- reading the draft RSE policy on our website which can be found at the bottom of this page.
- reviewing the draft curriculum long term plan which outlines the topics taught for each year group (when finalised, medium term plans will also be shared) and the sample resources found on this page. These are from The PSHE Association which many of our lessons will be based around and so provide a good starting point for you to see how the lessons are structured.
- completing the parent consultation Microsoft form which can be found here: Parental Consultation: Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Policy – Fill in form
Please complete the consultation form by Wednesday 17th June 2026. Feedback from parents and carers will help inform the final version of our RSHE policy before it is approved by governors.
If you have any questions, please do get in touch. Thank you for your continued support.
Your faithfully,
Anna Alton
Ms A Alton (Head of PSHE)
