BackUSU is back for 2026!
Posted on: 23/01/2026USU is a charity organised and run by Kenilworth School pupils. Established in 2004, the charity has raised over £80,000 to support education and health projects in Uyogo, Tanzania, and Botswana.
During the fundraising week (Monday 9 February to Friday 13 February), there will be three concerts performed by our talented students. These events will showcase a wide range of singing, dancing and performance skills. For those who have not attended before, the concerts provide a wonderful evening of entertainment and are not to be missed.

KUFL’s work in Uyogo
In July 2023, students in Kenilworth School's USU group (Urban Sounds for Uyogo) chose, from several different options, to use the £5,000 raised by their Africa Week (as it was then called) celebration of talent to support the villagers of Uyogo in building a new Rainwater Harvesting Tank, to catch and save clean water in Uyogo. Water is of prime importance in Uyogo as it is often scarce. Having a supply of good, fresh water available not only when it rains is vital. This Rainwater Harvesting Tank is for pupils of Umiki Secondary School, in Uyogo Ward. The cost of building the Tank was twice USU's £5,000 so KUFL offered to match USU's donation and together we covered the cost. This huge task, mostly manual work by villagers and by skilled workers, was completed recently.
This is a really good example of USU and KUFL working together. The benefit to Umiki School pupils of having available water nearby, for laboratories, toilets, watering crops which they eat for lunch etc, is great. The benefit to Kenilworth School of learning how their peers live in totally different cultures, countries, and ways of living is also great. It opens up a completely new world to KS students.
Kenilworth-Uyogo Friendship Link (KUFL) has worked for this mutual benefit to all involved - people in Uyogo Ward, Tabora District in Tanzania and also school pupils in Kenilworth School - since 1979. Please see KUFL's website for lots more information, photos and videos: www.kenilworthuyogofriendshiplink.org .
For each evening in this year's Charities Week, KUFL members will have a table in the corridor leading to the big hall, with models of the Rainwater Harvesting Tank and videos and information showing how we work with USU. We hope this will be interesting to Kenilworth School parents, and to students. We are all volunteers and would happily welcome new members!"
