The Personal Tutorial Programme

It is our aim to provide for students the best possible guidance and support during their stay at Castle, and the tutorial system is a very important element in our Sixth Form programme.

Each year group is divided into tutor groups of 20 students. We try to ensure that the students assigned to each group are those who have some academic subjects in common with each other and with their tutor. Students who are new to Kenilworth School are, wherever possible, carefully placed in groups where they have friends or acquaintances, or are\assinged to a student mentor to ease the transition to Castle.

The tutor group is the unit through which daily registration and routine administrative procedures are carried out.

In order to improve the quality of our tutorial work, we have recently structured the timetable in a way which considerably increases the time that tutor and student can spend in consultation. Clearly this has great benefits not only in the monitoring of each student’s general well-being but also in the completion of the lengthy procedures involved in students’ selection of and application for places in higher education and employment.

All tutor groups meet every morning for fifteen minutes and hold an extended tutorial period on Tuesday of one hour.

A common programme is followed covering essential aspects of Post 16 student life, such as study skills, work experience, careers and university guidance. In addition Year 12 students follow an enrichment programme in Block E.(For details follow the enhancement link).
