The welfare, care and development of children in this large school is the responsibility of our tutors and Year Heads. As well as ensuring the social well-being of our pupils the pastoral system works with curriculum leaders, parents and pupils to ensure that pupils make good progress towards academic and personal targets.
- Pupils start in Lower School in Year 7 and keep the same tutor and year head until the end of Year 9. Tutor groups are the main basis for teaching groups although there is some setting in Mathematics and Foreign Languages.
- Pupils move to Upper School for Year 10 and 11 with a new tutor and Year Head. The tutor group may also change.
- Post 16 pupils remain organized in tutor groups with a different tutor. There are two Senior Tutors at Castle and a Head of Sixth Form.
Tutors are the first point of contact for parents followed by Year Heads or Senior Tutors.
