Our Curriculum
Our curriculum aims to be broad and balanced and delivered in a way which allows pupils to progress at rates which match their talents and abilities. Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is based around the National Curriculum Subjects with the addition of Latin for some and Drama for all.
At Key Stage 4 pupils follow a GCSE programme which allows some specialization and vocational experience. The three Science option is available as well as the opportunity to study two Modern Foreign Languages and Latin. Post 16 we mainly offer Advanced Level courses with some vocational options.
All pupils follow a programme of Personal, Health and Citizenship Education which is delivered through a Tutor period. They also receive Careers Advice and Guidance and in Years 11 and 12 have a period of Work Experience. Religious Education is part of our core curriculum for all pupils.
Pupils with special needs are supported to ensure inclusion in all of the opportunities in the curriculum. We have also a policy to support pupils with particular talents.
Our formal timetable is based on a five one hour lesson day with three lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. The school day starts at 8.40am and the formal day finishes at 3.30pm with many after school activities extending into the twilight period. Homework is an integral part of the learning of each student and pupils are encouraged to develop their ICT skills both at home and school.
