Textiles
Exam Board: AQA

A level Textiles offers the opportunity for talented students who can offer a combination of artistic, inventive and creative flair, the opportunity to express their ideas, technical knowledge and organisational skills. It is a multi faceted course which especially needs interest, enthusiasm and determination.

We offer A level Textiles (Product Design) through the AQA Exam board. This follows on smoothly from AQA GCSE Textiles at Kenilworth School. However if you have always had a secret desire to work in the exciting, varied and colourful world of Fashion we regularly have students enrol and flourish on the course who do not have previous experience of Textiles at GCSE, but have a good set of GCSEs and are prepared to challenge themselves and work hard.

The course combines practical projects which involve originating design ideas, acquiring research and illustrating possible ‘creations’. Illustration can be hand based or involve Photoshop and Speedstep computer packages. To support and enable you to achieve your creative ideas you will also look at: Fashion, Textiles, and   Art and Design influences from 1800 to present day contemporary work, The course involves studying the continual development of fibres and materials e.g. heat and light reactive materials, micro-encapsulation etc, Methods of manufacture from straight stitch to heat sealing and Market and Business influences at work in the Textiles industry.

This term Year 12 & 13 will visit the Ballet Russes Exhibition at the V & A and ‘Drawing Fashion’ at the Design Museum. Pre-October half-term 2011 we intend to visit Paris and the ‘Musée de la Mode et du Costume’, Droguerie, Les Arts Decoratifs, Musée des Gobelins and any other inspiring exhibitions, land marks and markets that we can fit in!
