Work Experience
All Lower Sixth Students will have the opportunity to spend at least one week on work experience in a placement of their choice. This gives you an opportunity to see what you may want to do after you finish at Castle Sixth Form:
At Castle, Work Experience represents the vocational link between your course, any higher education plans and your career interests.
In the Sixth Form, decision making is an important responsibility of all students, and Work Experience will be an integral part of your decision making process.
For most of you Work Experience in the Lower Sixth will be the first stage of your investigation into higher education opportunities and preparation for the decisions which you will have to make in September and October of your Upper Sixth year. This emphasis will lead to a specialised, individually designed work placement, tailored to your needs.
We recognise the growing maturity and independence of our students and we consider that it is appropriate that you arrange your own placements.
This means that you will have the responsibility for seeking advice, discussing ideas, selecting companies, writing letters of application and arranging interviews. It will be especially important for you to negotiate a programme of work which suits your requirements.
If this sounds daunting, don’t be put off. The school will provide a full support programme, together with careers, tutorial and subject teachers' advice and guidance.
