Key Stage 3 - Years 7, 8 and 9

The objectives of the National Literacy Framework are integrated within the modules for all Key Stage 3 lessons.

 

Year 7

In Year 7 students follow an interesting and exciting programme of six modules:

• Biography & Autobiography
• Media Non Fiction Poetry
• Poetry
• Travelling & Telling
• A novel
• Creative Writing
• SHakespeare

These are enhanced with private reading and ICT activities, and supported by a stimulating library, which also encourages group activities such as The Carnegie Prize online reviews and inter-form reading quizzes.

Year 8

In Year 8 students are encouraged to read a wide and challenging range of text types and to develop an increasingly sophisticated written and oral response to their studies.

The year is divided into six modules:

• Myths and Legends
• Poetry
• Moving Image Media (Soaps)
• a play
• novels and short stories (genre study)
• History of language

 

 
 

 

Year 9

During the final year of Key Stage 3 students are challenged to raise their skills in order to achieve the best possible National Curriculum levels at the end of Year 9 in the Standard Attainment Tests. The objectives of the National Literacy Framework are integrated within these modules. Students are prepared for the end of Key Stage examinations through mock papers and specific work on language and text analysis with particular reference to non-fiction texts and styles

In Year 9 the students follow a course of short modules in:

• advertising and persuasive language
• an exploration of writing from around the world,
considering different cultures and beliefs
• a Shakespeare play
• writing styles in literary and non-fiction texts
• detective writing
• Standard Attainment Tests Practice
