KS3
builds upon the knowledge and experience of KS2.
At the start of Year 7 we assess what level each student is working
to, to give us a baseline for further development. We then start
a basic course of observational drawing, looking at drawing as a
tool for perception. We aim to develop the student's seeing and
awareness of the visual world, as well as the student’s practical
skills with a range of media. The second term sees this developed
in greater detail. The third term is where the students get to apply
what they have learned in a developed piece of work.
Year 8 closely follows the formula of Year 7, but in greater depth
- revisiting the concepts and development of practical skills at
a more challenging level.
Year 9 is seen as the transition between the learning and practical
application of the two previous years and the more demanding and
individual approach of GCSE.
In this year there is far more emphasis on the creative responses
of the student (and the student’s teacher) and more emphasis
on process
