New Kenilworth School site aims to encourage electric car use and pedal power

Posted on: 24/11/2021

Staff, students and visitors to the new Kenilworth School site in Glasshouse Lane are to be encouraged to embrace sustainable modes of transport when they move to the new site in the autumn of 2023.

An initial batch of electric vehicle charging points in the car park will enable ten cars at a time to replenish their batteries, with a further eleven earmarked for installation should demand require.

For even more eco-friendly travel, pupils, staff, visitors and community users will be encouraged to take to two-wheels through the provision of up to 784 secure, lit cycle spaces.

Making it easier to adopt environmentally-friendly forms of transport is just one of a number of measures being adopted by the developers of the new school.

These also include ensuring a lower demand for energy in the first place by creating a thermally efficient shell, using low carbon technology and preserving and enhancing the biodiversity on the 13-hectare site.

Executive head of Kenilworth School and Sixth Form/KMAT Hayden Abbott said: “Protecting the environment is of vital importance, so we are taking measures to ensure we minimise our impact on the environment. Encouraging more sustainable modes of transport is just one way we are aiming to do this.”
